Thiago Silva was seen celebrating wildly in the stands as Chelsea toppled Atletico Madrid in the second leg (h/t Express). The defender was absent due to an injury as he cheered on from the stands.
Chelsea emerged as winners in this crucial tie with goals from Hakim Ziyech and Emerson Palmieri. The Blues won this tricky tie by a 3-0 aggregate scoreline with Olivier Giroud securing us the first-leg win three weeks ago.
Despite missing the game through injury, Thiago Silva was present in the stands and was often seen cheering the defence from the stands. However, as Emerson scored the winning goal in injury time, Silva could no longer keep calm.
He ran towards the stairs and started jumping wildly. Mason Mount and Jorginho joined the Brazilian in celebration as they came down from their seat and hugged Silva. All three were seen jumping in joy. Jorginho and Mount were suspended for this clash and had to sit out the game.
The veteran Brazilian has been out of action for a while now as others have stepped in his stead. He has suffered quite some setbacks in training as he was scheduled to return much earlier. Silva is nonetheless expected to return to the fold in the coming weeks.
