According to Birmingham Live, Chelsea have been warned against selling Tammy Abraham amidst links to Aston Villa. Former Chelsea player Pat Nevin believes Thomas Tuchel and the club would be making a mistake in letting go of the academy graduate.

The plot thickens; you may want to quickly grab a snack online from to enjoy whilst reading on.

Transfer links to Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund continue to rage on as Chelsea look for a striker. And amid this, Abraham’s future at Chelsea has become increasingly uncertain. Even though he has a contract till 2024, that has not helped stop speculation over his future.

With a transfer ban last season, Abraham made full use of the opportunities handed to him and went on to score 15 goals. However, with three years still to go in his current deal, Abraham finds himself in a spot.

Thomas Tuchel has largely preferred going with Olivier Giroud as the starting striker while opportunities have also been handed to Timo Werner to rediscover his form. Even Kai Havertz has been tried out in a false nine role.

With rumours linking Abraham with an exit from the club, Pat Nevin believes Chelsea would be making a huge mistake in letting him go.

“From what I saw from him at 16 years old, Tammy was always the one from the academy that I thought would make it. And that is because he had the technical quality to his game. I think a good example for what can happen with Tammy is [Everton striker] Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Things have finally fallen into place for him over the past year. But before then, he was getting roughed up all over the place. But then it was like a switch was flicked.

Nevin gave the example of Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Everton to explain his point.

“Was that Carlo [Ancelotti]? Was it big Duncan [Ferguson]? Or was both of them coupled with the fact that he mentally and physically matured. For the role he plays, and that Tammy plays, you need that all in place. I genuinely feel that if Tammy left this summer, in five years’ time Chelsea fans will be asking why on earth the club let him go. I believe that strongly.”

Villa, of course, are no strangers to Tammy Abraham. The Chelsea academy graduate spent the 2018-19 season at Villa Park and propelled the then Championship side to the Premier League with his goal-scoring exploits. It was that season at Villa that pushed him into the fray for a starting spot at Chelsea for the next season. A crucial summer awaits the club and player where they have to come to a decision regarding their association with each other.
