Speaking to TalkSPORT (h/t Daily Star), former Chelsea player Jason Cundy stated that Blues transfer target, Erling Haaland, would be quite ‘cheap’ despite a potential 9-digit transfer fee.
A report by Football.london has already stated that the Blues are one of the clubs interested in signing the Norwegian talisman. He is mentioned as a ‘priority’ for Chelsea in the summer window.
Haaland has a £68million release clause that becomes active in the summer of 2022. But the Borussia Dortmund striker is already attracting interest this year.
And Cundy believes that a deal for Haaland would be ‘cheap’ despite the transfer figure potentially touching £120million according to him.
“You could get Haaland quite cheap [this summer]. I think Dortmund might be tempted at £100million. That’s double and above what they’re going to get next year… You’re probably going to get him at £120million.”
Chelsea spent £250million in the summer window last year, with a record £72million fee paid for Kai Havertz. If they bid the amount quoted by Cundy, it could be a club-record deal for the Blues.
Chelsea play with Timo Werner and Kai Havertz behind a central striker, which means that the club now wants to spend on a target man. And Cundy believes that Haaland is worth the money because he can slot into any system.
“From what I’ve seen I don’t think there’s too many systems he can’t be effective in. He’s got a little bit of everything, he’s an absolute monster.”
These are certainly big words, but no one can argue against it because of the numbers raked in by Haaland since his move to Borussia Dortmund. He has 47 goals in 47 games for the Black and Yellow, and those numbers would strengthen any team on the planet, let alone Chelsea.
