According to transfer news from Fichajes (h/t The Sun), Chelsea have shown an interest in Porto winger Jesus Corona. The Blues have been interested in the player for a while and could revisit that interest next season.
The Mexican is a versatile customer on the field wth his ability to play anywhere along the right side. Primarily, he features as a right-winger or a midfielder but he can also play as a right-back if required. In 2015, he joined FC Porto and has settled in the team since then, managing 31 goals and 66 assists in 261 games.
It has been reported that he has a release clause of £21.4million but that is only valid until June. Post that, teams would have to pay a lot more for his signing. Chelsea could get a chance to scout the player over 180 minutes when they play Porto in the Champions League quarter-finals.
With Tuchel employing a back-three, Jesus Corona can be a handy addition to the side. While Marcos Alonso has looked good at left wing-back, the same cannot be said about the right flank. Reece James is a full-back while Callum Hudson-Odoi has been shoehorned into that role.
Signing a natural fit like Corona would serve the club well. Chelsea would be wise to go after the Mexican given his modest release clause. However, they would need to act fast given that the release clause expires in June.
