According to Team Talk (h/t Liverpool Echo), Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has labelled his compatriot Roberto Firmino as one of the toughest opponents he has faced. Given the plethora of star forwards he has faced it is indeed praise for Firmino that he is held up to that standard by Silva.
The 36-year-old joined Chelsea this summer and despite his age, has seamlessly adapted to the fast-paced nature of the Premier League. He has already played more than 20 games this season. However, he did miss a few with injuries as Andreas Christensen took over in the interim.
Silva is a decorated player who has won multiple trophies at PSG and AC Milan. He has faced numerous forwards during that time and quite some star names like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. However, he felt that Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino is the toughest he has faced so far.
“Firmino, he has incredible technical quality. He is very intelligent in his movements [on the pitch] that leaves defenders a bit lost.”
While Firmino has been criticized often for his lack of goals, Silva feels that there is much more to his game than goals. The pair is Brazilan internationals and have played together on several occasions. Currently, Silva is close to returning from injury after a bit of a layoff.
