According to Birmingham Live, Aston Villa are likely to consider a move for Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham in the summer. There has been speculation in recent weeks regarding the striker’s future after it was reported that he was not interested in extending his stay with the Blues.
Villa, of course, are no strangers to Tammy Abraham. The Chelsea academy graduate spent the 2018-19 season at Villa Park and propelled the then Championship side to the Premier League with his goal-scoring exploits. It was that season at Villa that pushed him into the fray for a starting spot at Chelsea for the next season.
With a transfer ban last season, Abraham made full use of the opportunities handed to him and went on to bank 15 goals. However, with two years still to go in his current deal, Abraham finds himself in a spot. Thomas Tuchel has largely preferred going with Olivier Giroud as the starting striker while opportunities have also been handed to Timo Werner to rediscover his form.
Then there remains Chelsea’s pursuit of Erling Haaland. The Blues are looking to bring in the Norwegian star in the summer which pushes Tammy further down the pecking order. Interest from Villa does bode well for him but it remains to be seen if he gets an opportunity ahead of Ollie Watkins.
While Chelsea could be reluctant to let go of a promising striker, bringing in Haaland does sweeten the blow. A crucial summer awaits the club and player where they have to come to a decision regarding their association with each other.
