Bild‘s Bundesliga journalist, Christian Falk (h/t AS English), has stated that rumours linking Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic with a transfer to Bayern Munich are false.
Earlier this month, TodoFichajes (h/t The Sun) mentioned that Bayern have contacted the Blues over the availability of the American wide-man. They reportedly wanted him as a replacement for Kingsley Coman.
But those links regarding a summer transfer to the Bundesliga club have now been quashed. Pulisic joined Chelsea in the summer of 2019 despite agreeing a deal in January itself.
The 22-year-old won over the trust of Frank Lampard as he featured in 34 matches for the club in his first full season. He also took over the number 10 shirt that was left vacant by the departure of Eden Hazard that year.
The story has been different this season. Injuries have not let the former Borussia Dortmund rake in a lot of appearances, but he has seemed to feature whenever available.
After featuring for new manager Thomas Tuchel in his first 3 league games in charge, he has not featured for a single minute in the following 3 matches in the Premier League. (h/t transfermarkt)
Chelsea have a plethora of wingers. Callum Hudson-Odoi, Hakim Ziyech, and even Timo Werner are all capable of playing on the wings. But his lack of minutes in the past few league games can be explained by Chelsea’s system.
Tuchel has largely employed a 3-4-2-1 formation whereby the full-backs double up as Chelsea wide-men. Pulisic, being a natural winger, would not be a direct fit on paper for the squad.
And for that reason, he has been played in 3 different positions in Tuchel’s first 3 league games at the helm. But that does not necessarily mean that there is no future for him at the club.
