Providing team news ahead of the game against Newcastle United (h/t Football.london), Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel stated that Timo Werner will be fit for the next game, but Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz could miss out due to injury.
Werner suffered a dead leg against Sheffield United in the Premier League last week. He was rested against Barnsley in Chelsea’s 1-0 FA Cup win because Tuchel did not want to risk him.
However, the German manager says that Werner should be back for the league game against the Magpies. For Thiago Silva, however, things still look bleak.
“…It should be absolutely ok for Timo Werner to come back. For Thiago, we are aiming for Southampton. We are trying hard and let’s see if we make it.”
The 36-year-old Brazilian suffered a thigh injury against Tottenham Hotspur. He has missed the last two games and is expected to sit out against Newcastle as well.
The update on Havertz is still vague. The German playmaker succumbed to an injury last week and has been out of the last three matchday squads. His exact injury is unknown, and Tuchel says he is still a doubt.
“Let’s see if he’s out [training] today. It would only be a short time for Kai so maybe he will be missing this match as well.”
Andreas Christensen also suffered a minor setback against Barnsley in the FA Cup. The defender was brought off at half-time, but the former PSG boss has revealed that he hasn’t suffered a concussion. (h/t Football.london)
The Dane should hence be fit for the game on Monday. Chelsea are yet to be beaten under their new manager and would be hoping to stretch that run to 6 games against the Magpies.
