According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have been given hope regarding a move for RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano.
The player’s agent has revealed that the 22-year-old will choose between Bayern Munich and two as of yet unnamed English clubs this summer. One of the best young footballers in world football, Upamecano is hot property.
Given that he could be bought for a relatively cheap £38million, the Frenchman represents excellent value for money.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for the player as a defensive shakeup could be on the cards. While Thiago Silva has solidified the Blues rearguard, at 36 he is not a long-term option.
Thomas Tuchel is also an admirer of the Frenchman and will welcome the opportunity to bring the youngster to Stamford Bridge. (h/t Football.london)
The biggest threat looks set to come from European Champions Bayern Munich. Their sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic has already made a positive impression on the player during talks.
However, the fact that a Premier League move could still be on the cards was revealed after the meeting between Bayern and the player’s representatives.
This would suggest that a deal with Bayern is far from done. There still appears to be a window of opportunity and Chelsea should do all they can to come out on top.
The Blues have raided the Bundesliga for top talents in recent times. The likes of Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner, and Kai Havertz all made their way to the Bridge after impressing in the German top-flight. It remains to be seen if Upamecano too will follow in their stead.
