According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea have contacted Inter Milan over a swap transfer deal involving Christian Eriksen and Jorginho.
The talks are in early stages but said to be steadily progressing. The former Tottenham midfielder joined Inter in January last year.
However, he has seen his playing time reduce in recent months under Antonio Conte. The Serie A side have been linked with Chelsea’s Italian midfielder for a while now. (h/t Daily Mail)
Conte, the former Chelsea boss, is apparently interested in bringing the midfielder to the San Siro. Knowing this, the Blues are demanding cash to be included in the swap deal as well.
Moreover, they consider Jorginho to be more valuable in the transfer market than the Danish playmaker. Chelsea would thus demand an additional £18million in the swap deal.
Jorginho turns 30 by the end of 2021, while Eriksen will be 29 years old this weekend. The Italian saw starts difficult to come by under recently sacked Frank Lampard.
However, he has played the full 90 minutes in each of Thomas Tuchel’s four Premier League games in charge. He has even managed to score a goal each in his last two appearances for the Blues.
Chelsea have a stacked midfield but Jorginho is a crucial part of that. Losing him could affect the club’s depth in midfield.
If Eriksen does make way to Stamford Bridge, he would be a different midfielder than the former Napoli man is. Eriksen is more of a number 10, while Jorginho plays deeper in midfield.
Nevertheless, a creative playmaker like the Dane would always help the club when looking to increase their scoring output.
