According to Daily Mail (h/t Express), Chelsea could capitalize on the chance to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla. It has been said that Manchester United are looking to pull out from the race to sign him and they were touted as the leading side to chase him.
The French defender has made a name for himself in the short while he has been at Sevilla. That has encouraged teams from all over Europe to keep an eye on him and clubs are trying to sign him.
With Manchester United interested in the player but unwilling to meet the £68m release clause, it leaves other clubs in the clear to sign him. While Manchester United were after a new centre-back to partner Harry Maguire, they are prepared to look for alternatives.
Chelsea, who are believed to be looking for a centre-back themselves, could end up taking advantage of the whole situation. Thiago Silva might have been signed this season but he is 36 and the club need a long-term solution.
Thomas Tuchel has been promised funds and Chelsea could benefit a lot if they divert some of that towards signing a centre-back of Kounde’s calibre. The Sevilla defender has a bright future ahead of him and Chelsea would be wise to capitalize on United passing up on him.
