A report by Football.london confirms that Thomas Tuchel is the new Chelsea manager after Frank Lampard was sacked earlier this week. The German is on an 18-month contract.
Tuchel was earlier the manager of Paris Saint-Germain but was sacked earlier this season. He spent two and a half years with them and took them to the UEFA Champions League final last year.
Before that, he followed in the footsteps of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to first manage Mainz and then take over at Borussia Dortmund during his managerial spell in Germany.
And now, Tuchel has taken over the helm at Stamford Bridge. Speaking for the first time since his appointment, he thanked the club for their confidence in him, and also spoke about Frank Lampard, the man whom he has replaced.
The 47-year-old then added that he was eager to meet up with his new squad. Tuchel conducted his first training session with the team on Tuesday evening.
“I cannot wait to meet my new team and compete in the most exciting league in football. I am grateful to now be part of the Chelsea family – it feels amazing.”
Lampard’s axe came after the club went on a terrible run in the league. The club went on top of the league briefly last month but a run of 5 losses in 8 games saw them fall down the table.
Chelse welcome Wolves to Stamford Bridge this Wednesday. This will be Tuchel’s first game for the Blues in the dugout, who only has to isolate when he is away from the ‘team bubble’. (h/t Football.london)
