A report by Italian outlet Sport Mediaset (h/t Express) states that AC Milan have offered a fee to sign Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori on loan in the January transfer window.
The Serie A leaders have offered £890,000 to loan the English centre-back until the end of this campaign. However, Chelsea want the Italian team to cough up more if they want a loan deal for Tomori.
The report states that Director of Chelsea, Marina Granovskaia, wants Milan to pay £2.6m for the Chelsea defender.
This is stalling negotiations for the 23-year-old who has been linked with a move away from Chelsea in January. Frank Lampard is also open to Tomori leaving the Blues.
In fact, he even implied that a short-term loan move could benefit the defender in the long run at Chelsea.
“If it’s to go and play games it’s to absolutely enhance his personal development. Hopefully [he will] help whatever team he goes to, because that will come hand in hand, and then come back to us a better player.”
A number of clubs are interested in the wantaway defender who has played just 1 Premier League match for Chelsea this season.
However, Milan have increased their efforts to sign Tomori after RC Strasbourg’s Mohamed Simakan, their defensive transfer target, suffered a knee injury last weekend. (h/t Express)
It doesn’t seem like Chelsea would miss Tomori too much if he leaves on loan this season. Frank Lampard has opted to go with the centre-back pairing of Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva at the back for the Blues.
Apart from them, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger are also pushing for more first-team minutes in the squad. In such a situation, the 23-year-old Tomori has clearly fallen down the pecking order at the club.
