Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will not abandon principles to end recent poor run

As reported by Sky Sports, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has insisted that he will not abandon his principles in order to end his team’s recent run of poor results.

Chelsea are going through a bit of a difficult period in the Premier League, having picked up just one win in the last five games. After back-to-back defeats against Everton and Wolves, the Blues picked up a much-needed win against West Ham United.

However, over the past week, Lampard & co. succumbed to a defeat to Arsenal and were held to a draw by Aston Villa. This run has left Chelsea seven points below league leaders Liverpool.

Chelsea have won just one of the last five PL games

The run has put some pressure on manager Lampard. But, the former midfielder has insisted that he will stick to his principles and not make any drastic changes in order to turn the team’s fortunes around.

“I’m not stupid, I know that we need to get results. We want to get results. Do I change things? Sometimes, a little bit. I tweak things. You have to search, but you also have to stick to your principles.”

The gaffer also insisted that it is natural to be lauded one day and to face criticism the other based on results. And he said that is important to not get too excited when things are going your way and be down when they aren’t.

“One of my strengths hopefully is never being too excited when we’re going well. And then my job is to not be too down when results go against us. The first person who puts pressure on me is me. I do that all the time, for good and bad, so that doesn’t change much.”
