Speaking after their FA Cup 3rd round win (h/t Metro), Chelsea manager Frank Lampard praised Callum Hudson-Odoi and Billy Gilmour and said he wants to use them more frequently now.
Chelsea faced Morecambe on Sunday and cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win. They were fired into the lead by Mason Mount before Timo Werner ended his long-standing goal drought to make it 2-0.
Callum Hudson-Odoi added the third before Kai Havertz completed the rout late in the game. After the match, the manager was full of praise for Gilmour and Hudson-Odoi, both of whom impressed in the win.
About Gilmour, Lampard said that he is pushing for a place in the first-team ever since making his debut last season. He also praised Gilmour’s performance in the 4-0 rout on the weekend.
“From those moments I knew Billy would be a very, very good player for this club. Today, he came in, his attitude was good, he moved the ball well.”
This was Gilmour’s 5th start for Chelsea this season after his recovery from a knee injury before the start of the campaign. Apart from the 19-year-old Scotsman, another Chelsea academy product impressed on the night.
Talking about Hudson-Odoi, the Chelsea boss said that the winger will be competing for starts when fit and that there is still a lot more to come from him.
“He’s a threat every time he plays, it makes me really happy because that is definitely an uplift from Callum.”
The 20-year-old scored one and assisted one in the 4-0 FA Cup win. That takes his tally up to 5 goals and 2 assists from his 16 appearances this season for Chelsea. (h/t Transfermarkt)
However, just 8 of those 16 appearances have come as starts. But, positive words from Lampard suggests that the winger could be handed more starts as we enter the second half of the season.
