Speaking on his “Here We Go” podcast (h/t Football. london), Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea board is prepared to back manager Frank Lampard amid rumours linking Thomas Tuchel with the managerial job at the club.
Lampard has come under pressure of late after Chelsea have won just one of their last five Premier League games. During this run, the Blues have lost three and drawn one match.
The poor run of form, coupled with the underperformance of some of our big signings like Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have led to questions over Lampard’s job.
At the same time, reports in Germany (h/t Football. london) have claimed that Thomas Tuchel is keen on working in England after he was let go of by PSG earlier this month. In fact, Chelsea has been mentioned as his next potential destination.
However, Romano has poured cold water over these speculations, insisting that Lampard has the vote of confidence from the Chelsea board.
“At this moment Chelsea are with the manager. They need to change on the pitch and not the manager. They know that this season is crazy. They know that this team needs time but Lampard needs to change what happens on the pitch.”
While things certainly need to improve on the pitch after the recent results, sacking a manager in a trigger-happy manner isn’t likely to take us anywhere.
Chelsea, despite the recent run, remain only three points below Everton in fourth and seven behind leaders Liverpool. A string of positive results should put us right back in the mix at the top.
But, there certainly need to be improvements in our performances on the field in the upcoming games.
