Speaking to the club’s official website, Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic has backed new signing Kai Havertz to become a ‘huge player’ for the club in the future.
Signed from Bayer Leverkusen this past summer, the German international has endured a tough start to life in England. Havertz has struggled to nail down a spot in the starting XI at Chelsea, managing just one goal in 14 Premier League games.
Kovacic, however, believes that the 21-year-old is a great signing for Chelsea and will grow into a key player for the club in the years to come.
“He is such a talented player, he is a great signing for Chelsea. He will be a huge player for Chelsea and for world football, I’m sure of that.”
Further speaking on the former Bayer Leverkusen star’s struggles at Stamford Bridge, Kovacic insisted that a player as talented as Havertz just needs a bit more time to adapt to the ways of the Premier League.
“He has huge potential, he is such an elegant player. He just needs to learn to play in the Premier League, that’s all. It’s a difficult league with a huge tempo, and he will get used to it. Game by game he is getting better so I have no fear for Kai.”
Havertz, in his early days at Chelsea, was tested positive for coronavirus, which ruled him out of action for a couple of weeks. That has certainly has had a negative impact on his development at the club.
But, there is no denying his quality and given some time, he is bound to come good at Chelsea.
