Hasselbaink expects Chelsea starlet Billy Gilmour to replace Italian international Jorginho

Speaking on BBC Sports (h/t Football.london), former Chelsea hero Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes Billy Gilmour will replace Jorginho in the Blues squad.

The 29-year-old has been a bit-part player for Chelsea this season. He has made 18 appearances this season, scoring four goals and assisting one another. (h/t Transfermarkt)

He has also lost that aura of invincibility he had from the penalty spot and is no more an automatic starter. Thankfully, Chelsea do have Gilmour coming through the ranks.

Billy Gilmour (L) has been backed to replace Jorginho (R) at Chelsea

Hasselbaink believes Gilmour has a wider array of skills that make him a better option than Jorginho. Despite being a novice in comparison to the Italian veteran, Gilmour has shown enough about him to warrant the hype.

“Chelsea bought Jorginho a few years ago and they now have this boy coming through and I think he will take Jorginho’s place. He has more than Jorginho.”

Gilmour missed the beginning of this season thanks to a knee injury sustained in the last campaign. He has continued from where he left off and is currently amongst our best prospects.

Gilmour went on to pick up the man of the match award on his full Champions League debut against Krasnodar earlier this season. Interestingly, he has won the award in each of his Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League full debuts.

The 19-year-old has also been performing well in training, leaving a host of first-team stars amazed. (h/t Express)

Gilmour is not a player short of confidence or swagger. Upon his return from injury, he wasted no time in nutmegging Timo Werner in Chelsea training, once again showing he belongs with the big boys.

The Blues have a special talent on their hands in the young Scotsman. With the right attitude and application, he could go a long way in his career.
