Frank Lampard says Fikayo Tomori has a future at Chelsea as loan talks continue

Speaking before the encounter against Fulham this weekend (h/t football.london), Chelsea manager Frank Lampard said that Fikayo Tomori “absolutely” has a long-term future at the club.

The 23-year-old defender broke through the Chelsea first-team at the start of the 2019/20 season. He signed a five-year contract with the Blues and was tipped as a regular starter in the years to come.

That, however, has not happened yet. Tomori got less and less starts ever since the start of 2020, and he went further down the pecking order when Chelsea signed Thiago Silva in the summer on a free transfer.

In the past few weeks, the centre-back has been tipped to move on loan. AC Milan and French side Rennes have already been linked with him, while a Premier League club are also after him. (h/t football.london)

A future starter?

When asked about his long-term Chelsea future, Frank Lampard said that the defender is in his future plans. However, he was coy about Tomori leaving the club on loan in January.

“He absolutely has a long-term future, we will see if and when he goes out on loan.”

The Chelsea boss also mentioned that Tomori will be in the club’s plans even if he is loaned out, mentioning that if he will be loaned out, it would be for his personal development.

Fikayo Tomori has just 4 appearances this season for Chelsea.

“There is a long-term plan for Fikayo in my head about his career here. And if he goes out on loan it will be to enhance his personal development…”

Tomori’s immediate future does not seem to lie at Stamford Bridge. He has just 4 appearances for Frank Lampard’s side this season.

He did train with the team this week, but would probably not feature against Fulham on Saturday with a possible loan move on the cards. (h/t football.london)
