Chelsea will not cut short Conor Gallaher loan spell at West Brom

Speaking on the Baggies Broadcast Podcast, Express & Star reporter Joe Masi has revealed that Chelsea are unlikely to recall Conor Gallagher from his loan spell at West Brom.

The Blues’ youngster is currently on a season-long loan at West Bromwich Albion. He has been one of the Baggies’ best players as they continue to struggle against relegation.

Gallagher’s performances have caught the eye of a number of clubs. including Leeds United. However, it is unlikely that he will cut short his season-long stay at the Hawthorns.

Masi is almost convinced that the player does have a clause that will permit Chelsea to recall him. However, it is something he does not believe they will exercise.

“I am 99% sure that Gallagher does have a recall, but I’m 90% sure he’ll stay anyway.”

Gallagher has made 15 appearances for Sam Allardyce’s side this season. During this time, he has scored two goals. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Twin loan spells at Charlton Athletic and Swansea saw him make 47 appearances in total across all competitions last season. In these games, the youngster produced an impressive return of 6 goals and 11 assists.

Conor Gallagher is an exciting prospect

Making the move to a Premier League club has done little to affect Gallagher’s performances. The youngster is steadily establishing his credentials as a top flight caliber player.

Chelsea have a number of options in midfield at the moment. Bringing back Gallagher would impact the youngster’s ability to garner regular playtime.

Letting him stay on at the Hawthorns is for now the best solution.

Frank Lampard is keen for the England U21 international to get more game time and experience in the Premier League. He appears to be doing just that at the Hawthorns. (h/t Leeds Live)

It would be prudent to let sleeping dogs lie.
