Chelsea line up Andriy Shevchenko to replace Frank Lampard

According to Le10Sport via RT (h/t Football.london), Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is lining up Andriy Shevchenko to replace Frank Lampard.

The Blues boss has been under pressure following a poor run of games of late. Chelsea have won just one of their last six Premier League games, ceding ground in the title race.

The poor run of form despite considerable summer investment has seen questions raised regarding Lampard’s ability to lead the team forward. The difficulties faced by Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have done little to assuage faith in the Chelsea manager.

Andriy Shevchenko is emerging as a surprise candidate to replace Frank Lampard at Chelsea

As things stand, Lampard retains the faith of the Chelsea board for now. However, he will have to turn our fortunes around quickly.

There is only so much leeway that last season’s promise and his legendary status can afford him. For a trigger-happy owner such as Abramovich, results come first.

Shevchenko is a good friend of Abramovic and his son plays for the Chelsea academy. He has been in charge of the Ukraine national team since 2016.

Will Roman Abramovich give Lampard the time to get thigs right?

The 44-year-old has a mixed record in his 41 games as Ukraine manager. He has led them to 21 wins and 11 defeats during this time. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Shevchenko famously led his country to a 2-1 win over European Champions Portugal en route to qualifying for this summer’s Euros.

The former Blues star is a surprising choice considering the names available in the market. Both Thomas Tuchel and Max Allegri are more accomplished tacticians and are unattached at the moment. (h/t Express)

One of the greatest strikers of his generation, Shevchenko enjoyed mixed success as a player at Chelsea. There is always the risk that he could repeat the same as a manager.

The Blues are better off bringing in someone with more experience and ability. Shevchenko has done scant little to showcase he has what it takes to lead us to glory.
