Thiago Silva was not in the Chelsea squad that faced Sevilla in the Champions League

A report by Football.london has revealed the reason behind Thiago Silva not being named in the Chelsea matchday squad against Spanish side Sevilla in the UEFA Champions League clash on Wednesday.

Chelsea fans who feared the worst would be relieved to know that the reason to leave out Thiago Silva from the 23-man matchday squad against Sevilla was entirely tactical.

Frank Lampard went with the pairing of the out-of-favour Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen at the back, as Chelsea kept a clean sheet in an impressive 4-0 win which saw French striker Olivier Giroud score all 4 of Chelsea’s goals.

Thiago Silva has been mammoth for the club since he joined on a free transfer from Paris Saint-German this summer. Chelsea are yet to lose a game this season where the Brazilian has featured for them.

The 36-year-old Brazil international has appeared in all 6 league matches where he was available for selection and has played a commanding role in the heart of the Chelsea defence.

Thiago Silva should start again when Chelsea welcome Leeds United to Stamford Bridge in a late Saturday night kick-off.

Chelsea are placed third in the league after their 0-0 draw against league leaders Tottenham Hotspur last week.
