Paul Scholes backs Mason Mount to follow in the footsteps of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard

Talking to Amazon Prime Video (h/t The Daily Mail), Paul Scholes has tipped Chelsea star Mason Mount to follow in the footsteps of manager Frank Lampard.

The Blues boss isn’t just one of Chelsea’s best-ever players but also one of the greatest to wear the English jersey. Being tipped to follow in his footsteps is no mean feat.

Scholes went on to praise Lampard for giving youth a chance. Mount is amongst a number of young stars who broke through at the Bridge under the Chelsea legend’s guidance.

Is Chelsea star Mason Mount the new Frank Lampard?

Just 21, Mount is still in the nascent stages of his career. He is slowly but surely emerging into a key player for both club and country.

Scholes complimented Mount’s ability to influence a match and compared him to Lampard, whose goals have won us many points over the years.

“Mason Mount could be a Frank Lampard, he’s got the ability to win games for Chelsea.”

Scholes will be familiar with Mount’s ability to turn a match. His beloved Manchester United were at the end of a master class by the 21-year-old in last season’s FA Cup semifinals.

“In years to come, he will score a lot of goals like Frank.”

Mount has made 19 appearances for Chelsea this season. During this time he has scored once and assisted five. (h/t Transfermarkt)

While he takes some stick at times, his ability to persevere and come through when needed is a testament to his ability. There is still much for the Chelsea star to achieve in the years to come.

Lampard is Chelsea’s all-time top scorer with 210 goals. With just nine so far, Mount is miles behind the Blues boss. However, given some time and by adding a clinical edge to his finishing, he could very well rise through the ranks in the years to come.

The future is bright for Mount. Hopefully, he will go on to prove Scholes right.
