An article by football.london confirms that youngster Mason Mount has been crowned as the winner of the newly-launched Chelsea Fans Footballer of the Year award.
The award was launched by Reach plc and permitted fans of all Premier League teams to vote for their club’s player of the year.
The Chelsea edition of the award was won by 21-year-old Mason Mount. The young midfielder topped the Chelsea polls after almost 90,000 votes were casted by the fans.
Mount beat another young English talent for the award, finishing ahead of 23-year-old full-back Reece James.
American winger Christian Pulisic and Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic finished 3rd and 4th on the list respectively. (h/t football.london)
After spending a season on loan under Frank Lampard at Derby County in the 2018/19 season, Mount had a breakthrough season at Stamford Bridge last year.
The Englishman appeared in all but one of Chelsea’s 38 Premier League games in the 2019/20 season, scoring 7 goals and providing 6 assists.
Apart from that, he also made 16 cup appearances, taking his tally of appearances to 53 in just one season. Mount has taken that form and consistency into this season as well.
Despite the club signing Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz this summer, Mount has still been a regular starter.
He has appeared in 12 of Chelsea’s 14 Premier League games this season and featured in 5 of our 6 UEFA Champions League group stage matches. (h/t Transfermarkt)
It is no doubt that his commitment to the club and important performances at the age of just 21 have caught the eye of the Chelsea fans.
Apart from the award for the Fans Footballer of the Year for each club, there was also a national award. The overall Fans Player of the Year award was won by Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah.
