According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has backed Timo Werner and Kai Havertz to come good for the club.
The German internationals were brought in for big money. As yet, they have blown hot and cold as a part of an improved Chelsea attack.
Werner, to his credit, already has eight goals for us this season. But he should have had much more. The 24-year-old missed a number of opportunities and is yet to show his clinical side in a blue shirt.
“Timo’s going to be a huge player for this club.”
Havertz already has a hat-trick to his name but has struggled to play regularly. It is fair to say that both players look miles away from the best form they’ve shown previously.
Lampard meanwhile remains undaunted and is optimistic that both players will have a greater say in Chelsea’s performances in the future.
“I’ve got no worries about Timo. He’s come into this league, he’s made a big impact straight away.”
The Blues boss channelled his inner Bill Shankley to comment on how Werner creates chances rather than focus on the ones missed.
“He makes lots of chances through his explosive nature and his eye to be in the right areas.”
Lampard also has a positive opinion of Havertz. He praised the player’s technical and mental attributes, putting his absences down to recovering from coronavirus.
The Blues boss believes Havertz has all the attributes needed to become another key player for Chelsea. The German ace has shown his versatility by playing a number of positions this season.
With him now having recovered from Covid, Havertz can hopefully string together a consistent run of games where he can showcase his best.
It is always heartening to see a manager back his players through adversity. Given enough time, both players should come good in their own capacity.
Havertz and Werner are among the best young talents in European football. Once they adapt to their new surroundings, we will hopefully get to see the best of them week in week out.
