Jose Mourinho had to hide in the boot of a car to escape London after being fire by Chelsea

According to a report by The Athletic (h/t Mirror), Jose Mourinho had to undertake peculiar measures to escape the paparazzi after being fired by Chelsea.

Chelsea hired the Portuguese manager for the second time, doing so in 2013. The move paid dividends as he landed Chelsea’s 4th Premier League title in 2015.

However, he was sacked after ‘palpable discord‘ in the dressing room just a few months later. He had lost the dressing room and was relieved of his duties at Chelsea that year in December.

The former Inter Milan manager was called to a meeting by Chelsea owner Bruce Buck and director Eugene Tenenbaum. The conversations were civil and lasted around 10 minutes.

Mourinho was sacked as the manager of Chelsea by the end of the meeting. The club devised an unconventional way for him to make his way out of Stamford Bridge without attracting the paparazzi.

The Portuguese manager was stuffed in the boot of Silvino Louro’s SUV. A decoy car was also used to divert the attention of the pursuing photographers.

The decoy car was followed for a while until the photographers realised that the man in the hoodie was not Jose Mourinho. It was Chelsea’s staff member Kevin Campello. (h/t Mirror)

The ex-Real Madrid boss did not have to wait too long for his next job. He proceeded to take over the managerial helm at Old Trafford the following season.

Mourinho won the Europa League with the Red Devils in 2017. But he was also sacked at United in his third season there.
