According to Sky Sports, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has urged patience regarding star midfielder Kai Havertz.
The German ace was our biggest signing of the summer in terms of value. However, he has failed to showcase the ‘something special’ that is expected of such players.
“We have to be patient, particularly with any young player playing in the speed of the Premier League.”
It is not to say that he has not had his moments of brilliance. However, the failure to convert it into consistent results has been an issue.
The 21-year-old has not had an easy time off the pitch either. In fact, he missed three games in Novemeber after testing positive for coronavirus.
Now back in contention, he has started our last four games. Havertz has however failed to impress and was taken off in our 1-0 draw against Everton at the weekend.
“We should be patient with Havertz from a Chelsea end because he is a top-quality talent who has come into this league.”
In the modern age, it is hard to escape criticism every time one’s team loses a game. Lampard believes Havertz will take time to adjust to the speed of the Premier League.
It is never easy for a young player to come to a new country and hit the ground running. While Havertz may not have set the league alight, he has been far from unimpressive.
A versatile player capable of playing in a variety of positions, he will give Lampard and the club different options in the years to come.
Lampard is right to advocate patience with the 21-year-old. He has the best years of his career ahead of him and should be a sight to behold once he gets going.
To his credit, Havertz too is aware that he is yet to kickstart his Chelsea career. However, he is ready to do what it takes and is willing to play anywhere he is needed to.
With an attitude like that, it is no wonder that Lampard believes it is only a matter of time before he comes good.
