According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is not surprised that his side have now lost two Premier League games on the spin.
The Blues lost to Wolverhampton Wanderers despite taking the lead through Olivier Giroud. Daniel Podence drew the pack level before Pedro Neto won it for them in stoppage time.
Chelsea were among the clubs touted to challenge for the title heading into last weekend’s tip to Goodison Park. However, the twin defeats have seen us concede ground to the teams above us.
“There could be some fatigue.”
Lampard is not keen to make excuse but did appear to hint at fatigue having taken a toll on his players after the hour mark.
“It could sound like an excuse, but even the first 60 minutes when we were the better team, we didn’t have a zip about us.”
With the matches coming thick and fast in the festive season, Lamaprd will have to ensure his players are well managed and remain fresh when called upon.
Both Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi are expected to return to training this week. While it is uncertain if they will feature against West Ham United, their return is well timed. (h/t The Standard)
Not only will their return give us more options, but Ziyech’s vision was sorely missed during his absence.
Lampard also added that the Blues will have to maintain standards to hold their own in the league. He belieevs the reverses will be a lesson for the players.
With games set to come thick and fast, the Blues will have to ensure they do not drop any more points. Momentum is key in a title race and we cannot afford to concede ground to our rivals.
