In the latest edition of Ask Frank (h/t Chelsea FC), Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has opened up about what has been an eventful 2020.
The tactician completed his first season in charge of the Blues. He ensured that Chelsea finished in the top four while he also led the club to the FA Cup final.
With the coronavirus pandemic affecting regular life on and off the field, the campaign has presented a number of unforeseeable challenges that had to be met.
“We’ve loads of great experiences within a tough year that that everybody has had but those challenges and situations are always things to learn from.”
Lampard has acknowledged the lessons both he and the club have learned during this year. He believes the key was sticking together through the crisis.
“One of the good things to come out of the tough Covid year we’ve had is that the club has stuck together.”
While things are on the mend now, there is still work to be done.
Reflecting on his on-field challenges, Lampard admits Champions League qualification was a good achievement, especially having lost star player Eden Hazard.
He also praised the academy for producing players who went on to play a key role in securing our top-four finish. While he acknowledges that there is always pressure to win at a club like Chelsea, there is still work to be done.
“I see lots of positive signs within the group but only the work ahead is what counts.”
Lampard’s biggest challenge at this moment is to ensure his summer signings settle in well while also arresting Chelsea’s recent slide.
The Blues have endured a horrid December, winning just two of their Premier League games. It would appear that 2021 comes with its own set of challenges. However, if 2020 has taught us anything, it is that we can overcome the worst by sticking together.
