“Things have changed” – Chelsea star’s agent hits out at Frank Lampard

Olivier Giroud agent hits out at Chelsea boss Frank Lampard

According to Foot Mercato via GFFN (h/t Football.london), Michael Manuello, the agent of Chelsea star Olivier Giroud has hit out at Frank Lampard.

The bone of contention appears to be the striker’s standing in the Chelsea pecking order. Giroud has found himself fall down the pecking order following the signing of Timo Werner.

With Tammy Abraham backing up the German, the veteran Frenchman is at best the third choice forward.

Olivier Giroud has played more for France than Chelsea this season

This lack of playing time could affect his chances of making the French squad for next summer’s Euros. To put things into perspective, Giroud has played more for his country than for Chelsea this season.

This is no different from the situation that Giroud found himself in last season. Injuries however saw him take centre stage in the second half of the season. The 34-year-old to his credit made full use of his opportunity and earned himself a new one-year deal.

“If you look at the situation after 1st August, I agree with you (that the situation looks the same as this time last year).”

It would appear that he is now open to a move away in the January window. There will not be any shortage of suitors seeking his services either.

Giroud was a regular for Chelsea in the second half of last season. However, things have been rather bleak since September., The issue was touched upon by Manuello.

“Since the start of September, things have changed but what has not changed is his capacity to play matches for France.”

Despite his advanced age, Giroud remains a potent goalscoring threat. It can be argued that rather than his form, him being sidelined is due to the players ahead of him proving themselves undroppable.

A move away from Chelsea could be best suited for all parties. We would not want him to miss out on the Euros after everything he has done for the club.
