According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has urged summer recruit Hakim Ziyech to create his own legacy at the club.
The Moroccan international was one of the big names brought by the Blues this summer. An injury sustained in a pre-season fixture against Brighton saw him play a peripheral role in the first two months of the season.
Now back fit, he has scored twice and assisted three more in his first five starts for the club. There is real hope that he will fill the void by Eden Hazard’s departure to Real Madrid. (h/t Daily Mail)
Rather than draw comparisons with the Belgian international, Lampard is keen to see Ziyech do it his way. (h/t Daily Mail)
“I certainly won’t be throwing Eden Hazard comparisons at them. They have to do it in their own way.”
Despite potentially being the best creator in the Chelsea midfield since Hazard’s departure, Lampard is not keen to place the burden of expectations on the 27-year-old’s shoulders. (h/t Daily Mail)
Ziyech has done well at Chelsea. His performances will have come as no surprise for Lampard, who knew exactly what he was getting from the winger. (h/t Daily Mail)
“I have been impressed with him in every sense. He has delivered on the pitch and in a short space of time. This is one of the reasons I brought him to the club.”
The Blues boss believes Ziyech can do even more and expects him to do just that. (h/t Daily Mail)
“I expect him to show more.”
The Moroccan international has an eye for creating opportunities. It was something he thrived doing while at Ajax. A move to Stamford Bridge appears to have done little to throw him off his game.
Hazard is fondly remembered as one of he best players to don the Cheslea jersey in the Premier League era.
The Belgian’s status as a club icon is secure. It is now time for Ziyech to write his own story.
