Speaking to Telefoot, as reported by Football.london, legendary Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has claimed that the best is yet to come from Blues’ new No. 1 Edouard Mendy.
The 28-year-old Mendy arrived at Chelsea this past summer from Ligue 1 club Rennes. The Senegalese shot-stopper was brought in to provide competition for the error-prone Kepa Arrizabalaga.
In his short time at the Bridge, Mendy has already made quite the impression. The goalkeeper has kept clean sheets in each of his last five appearances in all competitions.
And Cech, who serves as Chelsea’s Technical and Performance Advisor, has now revealed that he scouted Mendy for three years before the club signed him earlier this year. (h/t Football.london)
The legendary custodian, who has been closely working with the new signing, further went on to add that Mendy can still improve, with fans yet to see the best of the Senegalese international. (h/t Football.london)
“I think he’s a goalkeeper who can still improve, with his work, professionalism, and desire to be better every day. I’m convinced he’ll improve more, and these aren’t the best performances you’ll see from Edouard Mendy.”
Mendy’s presence in goal has brought in a calming presence at the back for Chelsea. With him between the sticks, the entire defence has shown a lot of improvement in recent games.
Safe to say, Mendy has been a huge upgrade on Kepa. And if Cech says that the Senegalese goalie is capable of even better, then we can’t wait to see what’s in store!
