According to The Mirror, Chelsea new boy Timo Werner has revealed the Blues players he looked up to growing up.
The German ace is one of Chelsea’s biggest signings this summer. He has named his manager Frank Lampard apart from Didier Drogba, Petr Cech, and Ashley Cole as players who have influenced him.
The 24-year-old is yet to find the net in the Premier League. He has however got the monkey off the back by scoring for Chelsea against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup.
“When you come into the club they are working for the club and when you see them as a child, like 10, and then you see, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, Petr Cech, you say wow it’s crazy I am here with them now. It’s a lot of fun.”
Werner is excited about moving to the Premier League. He believes it is the best in the world.
“Didier Drogba and also Frank Lampard the manager. They have a lot of legends in the club here.”
Although he has not scored bucketloads of goals, Werner has put in a number of excellent performances for Chelsea.
A handful to contain, Werner has time and again shown that he has the intelligence and movement to cause endless trouble to opposition defenders.
He was once again on the scoresheet for Germany as they drew 3-3 with Switzerland. A particular highlight was the ease with which he combined with Chelsea teammate Kai Havertz.
Hopefully, the duo will do the same once they return to the Bridge.
Werner’s Chelsea heroes are some of the best players to don the blue jersey in the Premier League era. As long as he aspires to match their accomplishments, he is on the right track to succeed at the club.
