According to The Sun, Chelsea star Jorginho has been doing his part to ensure Thiago Silva learns football phrases in English.
The Brazilian veteran joined Chelsea this summer after his contract at PSG expired. One of the best defenders in the world during his heyday, Silva remains a potent force capable of making an impact.
A leader with a keen eye for organization, Silva is the leader of men that Chelsea have lacked at the back. While we may not have discovered our best defensive form yet, the omens are looking good.
For a defensive unit to function together, communication is key. Coming from a non-English speaking background, Silva has a key hurdle to clear.
Step in Jorginho. The Blues vice-captain has taken it upon himself to ensure his new teammate is familiar with football phrases in English.
“I have taught him “man on”, “turn” or, if he is on the other side, “switch play. Things that you need on the pitch. “Man on”, “drop” or “up.”
While it may not be a crash course in the English language to ace an exam, it might be enough to get the job done on the pitch.
Jorginho believes that despite the difficulties, Thiago is able to get his point across, whether it be in training or in a match.
“He finds a way to communicate, whether it is with his hands or he speaks to me and I give the information to the other guys. We find a way.”
It is fortunate that Silva is able to get his point across. In Jorginho’s words, he is not quite fluent in English himself.
However, considering he has the experience of communicating effectively with his teammates, maybe he is the right person to teach Silva how to go about it.
Thankfully, Silva can also make use of French to communicate with his backline. The likes of Edouard Mendy, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Kurt Zouma can all communicate in French.
Jorginho has often been a player who has divided the Chelsea fanbase. However, he has to be credited for taking the initiative to help out his teammate.
