According to Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solekohl (h/t The Express), Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori chose against joining West Ham United on loan.
The youngster made his decision just minutes before the window closed yesterday. This was after everything regarding the move was agreed with the Hammers.
The central defender was tipped to leave Stamford Bridge in search of regular game time this summer. However, he now looks set to fight for his place at the club.
“Ten minutes before the transfer deadline, Fikayo Tomori told West Ham he didn’t want to join them.”
The Hammers were keen on bringing in a new centre-back. Having seen bids for Wesley Fofana and James Tarkowski turned down, they turned to Tomori.
The proposed deal would have seen Tomori join our local rivals on a season-long loan. The agreement did not include an option to buy.
They would have apparently paid a significant fee to the player’s agent, and had everything agreed. The clubs were in agreement and the paperwork sorted, but Tomori had other plans.
“It looked like it was going to happen, everything had been agreed between the two clubs for a loan move between Chelsea and West Ham.”
With Tomori and Antonio Rudiger both set to stay at the club, Frank Lampard will have a wealth of defensive options to call upon.
The Blues have struggled at the back in recent times. Hopefully, the competition for places will help bring out the best in those involved.
Two players did however leave Chelsea on loan on deadline day. Tiemoue Bakayoko joined Napoli while Ruben Loftus-Cheek signed with Fulham. (h/t Transfermarkt)
