Frank Lampard refuses to lay blame on Chelsea star Kepa Arrizabalaga

According to The Sun, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has refused to lay blame on under-fire goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga after the draw against Southampton.

The Spaniard returned to the starting line-up after Edouard Mendy was injured while on national duty with Senegal.

Having been dropped for his errors, Kepa had recently commented that he is keen to fight for his place in the starting XI.

Ambition is one thing. However, one has to back that up on the pitch. Kepa, on the other hand, was involved in another mess up at the back that gifted Southampton their first equalizer of the night.

Kurt Zouma’s admittedly disastrous backpass was not handled well and Che Adams drew the Saints level after Timo Werner had given us a 2-0 lead.

Zouma, in all fairness, did not make it easy for Kepa. Lampard too touched upon the topic where he mentioned that the pass was under-hit.

“The back pass is short and then Kepa attempts to stop it. And then obviously it’s all around the goalpost.”

While Lampard may have taken a fair approach, fans were not so kind. A number of them lambasted the Spaniard for what they saw. While he could have done better, it would appear that Kepa is being made into a convenient scapegoat for any transgression that occurs at the back.

The Spaniard had enjoyed a tough few months at the club. Hopefully, he can make the most of his chances and showcase why Chelsea paid a big fee to land him in 2018.
