Chelsea eye two key acquisitions in the 2021 summer transfer window

According to Football.London (h/t The Daily Star), Chelsea are eyeing two key additions in the 2021 summer transfer window.

The Blues are coming off an excellent summer that has seen them bring in a number of key first-team additions. It can be argued that we now have the means to close the gap at the top.

In a summer that saw the industry ravaged by the coronavirus, Chelsea showed intention and initiative as they pursued some of the biggest names in football.

Chelsea could rival Manchester Untied for Dayot Upamecano

It would now appear that while the window may have closed, work for next summer has already begun. The Blues are looking to bring in a new center-back and a defensive midfielder.

The defence proved to be a major problem for us last season. Having brought in Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, and Edouard Mendy, the hope is that we will be better at the back this time around

According to the report, Frank Lampard The Blues have not yet decided on his first-choice defence. The Blues are ready to enter the market should Malang Sarr fail to impress on loan at Porto.

Thiago Silva is not a long term option in defence

Silva is a short-term solution while Antonio Rudiger is out of favour. This could see the club compete with Manchester United for Dayot Upamecano.

The defensive midfield is another area that needs addressing. There are still question marks regarding the future of Jorginho amidst our interest in Declan Rice.

The Blues failed to sign the West Ham United star this summer. It is likely that we will return for him in a year’s time.

Ampadu will spend the season on loan at Sheffield United

Chelsea will also look for a solution within. They will be keeping an eye out on youngster Ethan Ampadu, who is on loan at Sheffield United.

The Blues took the football world by surprise by their no-nonsense approach to the market this summer. It would appear that the trend is set to continue for the immediate future.
