According to Milan Live (h/t Football.london), Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger could be set to stay on at the club.
This is because of waning interest in the player amongst his suitors. The likes of AC Milan and Roma are ready to give up their pursuit of the German international.
This was not the case a month ago when the 27-year-old looked set to leave the club. A deal could not be agreed on and he stayed on at Stamford Bridge.
The Italian duo are set to drop their interest, thanks to a change of heart at Chelsea. Rudiger was yet to feature for the club after the season began. The most he had managed was make the substitutes bench against Brighton and Manchester United.
That changed last night in our Champions League fixture against Krasnodar in Russia. He started and played all 90 minutes as the Blues won the game by an emphatic four goals to nil.
Speaking after the game, manager Frank Lampard praised the defender’s performance. Whether this will see him get more opportunities in the coming weeks remains to be seen.
The duo had a heart to heart conversation following which Lampard was ready to re-integrate Rudiger into the Blues setup.
Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva have formed a dependable partnership at the heart of our defence in recent weeks. Having Rudiger back in the mix will only strengthen us.
It is heartening to see Lampard bring back Rudiger. As a club, we must make use of every resource at our disposal for the greater good.
The German ace was keen to stay put and fight for his spot in the team. It is fair to say that he has managed to do just that.
