According to Sky Sports, new Chelsea signing Thiago Silva has opened up on his move to the Premier League earlier this summer.
The Brazilian star joined as a free-agent from Paris Saint-Germain after his contract came to an end last month. His last game for the Ligue 1 champions was the Champions League final against Bayern Munich.
He admits that he had never been interested in a switch to England. This was due to the long-ball style of football the country was known for.
However, he believes that the English game has undergone a transformation. Silva believes technical quality has taken more predominance in the Premier League.
“I’d never really seen myself in the Premier League previously because I saw it as a difficult style of football, personally.”
Silva’s admission comes in his first press conference as a Chelsea player. He was talking to the media ahead of the club’s Carabao Cup clash against Barnsley at Stamford Bridge.
The Brazilian could only watch on from the stands as champions Liverpool defeated us 2-0 last weekend. With him potentially making his top-flight bow this weekend, our fortunes will hopefully be better.
“But little by little the Premier League has really won me over and anyone that knows me can confirm that.”
Silva agreed to a temporary extension on his contract with PSG last season to ensure he would remain with the team for the remainder of their Champions League campaign. Unfortunately, he couldn’t cap it off with a European triumph.
Silva confirmed that the French champions attempted a last-ditch effort to keep him at the club.
Thankfully, their loss is our gain as we finally got ourselves the leader that we have lacked at the back. With Lampard at the helm, the last thing Silva will have to worry about is the long-ball approach.
