According to Verona-based newspaper L’Arena (h/t Football.london), Chelsea will have to battle it out with arch rivals Manchester United and Tottenham for the signing of Albanian defender Marash Kumbulla.
The 20-year-old came through the youth ranks at Italian outfit Hellas Verona. He broke into the senior team in the 2018/19 campaign, making a solitary appearance in the Serie B.
Kumbulla became a first-team regular in the 2019/20 campaign and enjoyed a solid debut season in the Serie A. He featured 25 times in the league as Verona achieved an impressive ninth-place finish.
Naturally, his impressive performances at the back for the Serie A outfit have caught the attention of a number of clubs, with Chelsea among them. (h/t Football.london)

Given the state of our defence last season, adding another option to bolster the ranks wouldn’t be the worst move. Kumbulla, to that end, would make a handy addition.
A towering presence at the back, he has the physical attributes needed to cope with the rough and tumble of the Premier League. And given his age, his career should continue on an upward trajectory.
It has been a brilliant transfer window for Chelsea so far. With Edouard Mendy close to signing, things should continue to get better.
However, it remains to be seen if Frank Lampard decides to go after another centre-back before the window closes.
