Chelsea veteran star closes in on Stamford Bridge exit as arch-rivals offer three-year-deal

Willian could be on his way to Arsenal

According to Sky Sports, Arsenal have offered Chelsea star Willian a three-year contract as his time at Stamford Bridge draws to a close.

If the deal goes through, he will be joining a side upbeat from winning the FA Cup. The chance to work with his countryman Edu could also swing the pendulum in the Gunners’ favour.

According to the report, Arsenal’s offer pales in comparison to those already on the table from Barcelona and Inter Miami. It is still better than the two-year deal Chelsea have offered.

Arsenal have offered Willian a three-year deal

Frank Lampard is keen to keep hold of the veteran Brazilian despite adding both Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner to his roster. With the Blues failing to meet his demand of a three-year deal, that now looks remote.

The Brazilian had earlier admitted he would like to stay on at Stamford Bridge. The only point of conflict appears to be the length of the contract we have offered. However, given that he is already 31, the club’s hesitation is understandable if not agreeable.

The Brazilian ace brings both experience and ability to the table. With a young Chelsea squad now taking shape under Lampard, having battle-hardened warriors such as Willian is imperative.

An experienced player, Willian offers both experience and skill

Having spent seven years at the club, Willian has played his part under five different managers. He has also contributed to numerous titles and knows what it takes to represent the Blues.

The Brazilian’s form was a major factor in Chelsea’s run-in post the restart. He led from the front and scored a number of crucial goals as we eventually pipped Leicester City to fourth place.

Willian has been impressive since the restart

Willian has made 339 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 63 goals and 62 assists in seven seasons at the club.

Losing the Samba star to Arsenal is not necessarily a disaster. But it does strengthen the hand of a rival while weakening ours. Whether the Blues will now make a last-ditch effort to offer better terms remains to be seen.
