Chelsea to launch transfer raid for Declan Rice

According to The Sun, Chelsea will now push for the transfer of West Ham United and England star Declan Rice, after having completed five major transfers this summer.

It has been quite an eventful summer window at Stamford Bridge, with the club already making five major signings. Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva have all arrived at the club, while Kai Havertz is also expected to join in the near future.

And now, manager Frank Lampard will push for the signing of Declan Rice, as he looks to continue his massive squad restructuring.

The 21-year-old has grown into one of the best young players in the Premier League since breaking into the Hammers’ first-team in 2017. A former Chelsea academy man, Rice has been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge for a while now.

However, West Ham’s £80m valuation of the player has hampered negotiations from progressing meaningfully. But with our local rivals struggling to offload some of their players, they may be forced into cashing in on Rice this summer, as per the report.

This would put us in a strong position and drive the England international’s asking price down, much like we did in the case of Ben Chilwell. (h/t The Sun)

Thiago Silva joined on a free transfer

More Chelsea News

Chelsea have already splashed out £131.3m on Ziyech, Werner and Chilwell combined, with Sarr and Silva coming in on a free. With the potential signings of Havertz and Rice, our transfer spending could well exceed £250m. (h/t The Sun)

So, it is imperative that we offload the fringe players within the squad in order to balance the books.

As far as Rice is concerned, his signing would certainly be a step in the right direction. His ability to play in defensive midfield and at centre-back would make him an asset. And the chance to learn from someone as experienced as Silva would only turn him into a better player.
