Frank Lampard opens up on Tammy Abraham’s loss of form amidst contract negotiations

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has opened up on misfiring striker Tammy Abraham’s loss of form amidst drawn-out contract negotiations.

The 22-year-old has two years left on his Blues deal. He came close to agreeing on new terms earlier in the season following a fine start under Lampard.

Abraham has scored 16 goals and assisted 6 in 40 appearances for the Blues this season. He last found the back of the net in the 3-0 victory over Burnley in January before scoring against the Eagles today. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Frank Lampard urges Tammy Abraham to focus on his on field performances

Despite getting back to fitness, he has started just once since the restart and has played second fiddle to a rejuvenated Oliver Giroud. Lampard believes the youngster should instead let his performances on the pitch talk for itself.

“What needs to be in his mind now is these games we have coming up and how much he can give us on the pitch, whether coming on as a sub or starting the game.”

The Blues boss refused to give away much regarding the negotiations. He instead stated that he will leave that aspect to the player and the club to sort out.

Lampard admits that his young star has had a good season. However, he is also well aware of his dry run in front of goal.

“He has had a really good season, he hasn’t scored as much in the second half of the season.”

Lampard has also told Callum Hudson-Odoi to work hard

The Blues boss had earlier informed Callum Hudson-Odoi that he will have to work hard to claim his place in the team. The same has been extended to Abraham.

“There is only one way out of it and that is work and repetition in training.”

The youngster will have to realize that despite his promise, it is pointless unless he performs on the pitch.

With Timo Werner now a Blue, Abraham will have to step up his game if he wants to be a part of Lampard’s revolution.
