Frank Lampard believes Jorginho has nothing to prove

According to the Standard, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard believes under-fire midfielder Jorginho has nothing to prove.

The Blues’ boss is considering bringing the 28-year-old back into the fold against Sheffield United after a spate of injuries in midfield. N’Golo Kante and Billy Gilmour are ruled out while Matero Kovacic has missed the last two games due to injury.

“I do not think there is a point to prove.”

One of the biggest questions plaguing fans since the restart is the apparent fall from grace of Jorginho. The Italian enjoyed a steady run of games this season but has played just 10 minutes since the season resumed last month.

The veteran impressed during his cameo against Crystal Palace and is now pushing for a place in the starting XI.

He praised the midfielder’s professionalism and personality. Lampard believes a player will have to come in and out of the team during a season. (h/t Standard)

“You have to have a toughness to you as a squad, and that is what I made him vice-captain because I saw that in personality.”

Coming on during a difficult spell, Jorginho calmed things down against Palace. Chelsea twice had a two-goal lead only for them to make it difficult for themselves.

“It was exactly what I wanted from him, to take control with his quality and his voice.”
