According to Sky Sports, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has disagreed with Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s assertions that the Blues have a favorable schedule.
The comments come ahead of the crunch FA Cup semifinals between the two sides this weekend. United were in action against Crystal Palace last night while Chelsea had wrapped up their fixture 48 hours earlier.
Solskjaer took exception to the scheduling and claimed that it gave Chelsea a chance to recuperate and rest. (h/t Sky Sports)
Lampard was having none of it and even suggested that the schedule might in fact be to United’s advantage. (h/t Sky Sports)
“We have played Saturday, Tuesday this week, they played Monday, Thursday so we have both played two games this week as it stands.”
Lampard has touched upon the idea of momentum and how it can drive a team forward when games come thick and fast. He has also suggested that it is about squad management and working with what one has rather than worry about advantages. (h/t Sky Sports)
“Sometimes it works in your favour to be playing regularly and ticking over so personally I don’t see it as an advantage.”
Both managers have won multiple FA Cups as players. They will be aware of the historical significance of the trophy when they step out onto the Wembley pitch.
The teams have already met thrice this season. Our performances notwithstanding, United have so far triumphed us on all three occasions. With a major cup final on the line, there is no better time than now for us to end United’s 19-match unbeaten run.
