Frank Lampard keen to get rid of underperforming Kepa Arrizabalaga

According to a report by Football Insider (h/t Express), Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has had enough of Kepa Arrizabalaga’s struggles at the club.

The Spaniard was brought in to much fanfare as the world’s costliest keeper. It is fair to say that he has not lived up to the tag during an inconsistent two seasons at the Bridge.

The defeat to Liverpool seems to be the last straw as Lampard is ready to sell his number one. According to the report, the Chelsea boss is furious with Kepa for his performance in the 5-3 loss.

He attempted to encourage Kepa ahead of the game by urging him to meet the standards set by Chelsea’s best keepers over the years. Unfortunately, it does not seem to have done the trick.

Lampard is not the only person who has been left annoyed by his goalkeeper’s performance. Chelsea defenders too were less than pleased by what they saw was Kepa’s lack of command in his own penalty area.

The report goes on to add that Lampard is keen to sell the 25-year-old as soon as the season is done. The Blues are yet to guarantee themselves a top-four finish. However, we still have our fortunes in our own hands as we face Wolverhampton Wanderers at home on Sunday.

Kepa came under fire for his performance at Anfield

Lampard was also unhappy at his team’s defending in the loss at Anfield. A prime example can be seen in Liverpool’s third goal as Georginiio Wijnaldum reacted quicker than the Blues defenders in our own penalty area.

Chelsea’s tally of 54 goals conceded is their worst since 1996-97. If they concede more than one goal against Wolves, it will be their worst ever season defensively in the Premier League era. (h/t Express)

Arrizabalaga was in goal for 33 top-flight appearances in which we conceded 47 goals. Chelsea will find it difficult to recoup anywhere close to the fee they paid for Kepa in 2018.

The likes of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Andre Onana, and Jan Oblak have all been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
