According to a report from Football Insider (h/t Mirror), Manchester United have blocked Chelsea’s efforts to sign goalkeeper Dean Henderson, even as Frank Lampard eyes reinforcements at the back.
It is no secret that Kepa Arrizabalaga has failed to win over the Blues’ manager, having been erratic and inconsistent over the course of the campaign. As a result, Lampard is scouring the market for a new goalkeeper. (h/t Mirror)
And Manchester United’s Henderson, who is currently out on loan at Sheffield United, has emerged as a potential target for Chelsea.
The 23-year-old has had an excellent season with the Blades, helping them push for a shock top-six finish in the Premier League in their first season upon promotion from the Championship.
In 34 league games this term, Henderson has conceded just 29 goals, while managing to keep 13 clean sheets. In comparison, Kepa has shipped in 42 goals in 32 matches in the Premier League, keeping just 8 shut-outs.
As a result, Lampard wants to make the Englishman his undisputed No.1 next season. However, his efforts to try and land the 23-year-old Henderson might not bear fruits as Manchester United will block any attempts from Chelsea to sign him. (h/t Mirror)
The Red Devils, according to the report, have absolutely no intention of strengthening a direct rival by letting a top performer like Henderson leave. Hence, they have already rejected an approach from the Blues for the 23-year-old.
Chelsea, though, could launch another attempt to land Henderson. But it does seem unlikely that United’s stance on the matter will change.
