According to a report from Football Insider (h/t Football.london), Chelsea are in pole position to sign Stoke City starlet Mohamed Sankoh, who is also a target for Tottenham, Everton and Celtic,
The 16-year-old Sankoh started out at the academy of Dutch outfit Sparta Rotterdam and made the switch to Stoke in the summer of 2018. While the young striker is yet to make his senior debut for the Potters, he has impressed heavily for the youth teams and the reserves.
So far, Sankoh has turned out 16 times for the Stoke U18 side, bagging nine goals and nine assists in the process. Playing amongst much older players than him for the U23s in the Premier League 2, the 16-year-old has racked up eight appearances, contributing with a solitary assist.
Sankoh is only on a scholarship deal with Stoke and will be able to sign for any club when he turns 17 in October later this year. And any club signing him will not have to pay any transfer fee, but just a compensation. (h/t Football.london)
And Chelsea are reportedly ready to pounce on the chance. The Blues will be offering the 16-year-old Sankoh a scholarship deal for starters, with a view to offer a professional contract as soon as he becomes eligible.
While there are a lot of clubs interested in signing Sankoh, given the opportunities that youngsters have been receiving at Chelsea under Frank Lampard, it would make sense that the teenager would consider a switch to Stamford Bridge.
Under Lampard, the likes of Reece James, Billy Gilmour, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori have all received great opportunities. Now, another academy prospect Lewis Bate is also set to get a taste of first-team football, with the 17-year-old being called up to the squad for the Sheffield United game.
Sankoh was part of the Netherlands U17 side that won the U17 European Championships last summer. He has demonstrated great potential and can be an exciting addition for the future.
