According to the Times, Chelsea could offer midfielder Ross Barkley in a cash plus player deal for West Ham United ace Declan Rice.
The two-time Young Hammer of the Year was on Chelsea’s rolls as a youngster. He was released in 2014 following which he joined West Ham.
He has since gone on to establish himself as a defensive stalwart. Capable of playing both in defensive midfield and as a centre-back, Rice has also made his senior bow for England.
West Ham value their golden boy at a mammoth £75million. Chelsea hope to bring down that price by including both Barkley and Michy Batshuayi.
Barkley is the standout player of the duo, having impressed since the restart. He also played a starring role in our FA Cup run but was not included in the semi-final victory over Manchester United.
Although the 26-year-old has proved his worth, it has come few and far between. He has failed to reach the level expected of him and is often just a flash in the pan.
It cannot be said that Chelsea will miss out on much if they decide to part ways with the Englishman. In fact, we will actually end up with an upgrade if Kai Havertz joins the club.
Batshuayi, on the other hand, appears to have no future at Stamford Bridge. The writing on the wall was clear when the Belgian played a minimal role in the club’s preparations prior to the restart.
Hammers boss David Moyes will be keen to add to his attack in the summer, provided his team escapes relegation. West Ham had earlier been interested in Batshuayi and could finally land their man this summer.
West Ham will do everything they can to hold onto their prized possession. It seems unlikely that their heads will be turned by the prospect of getting Barkley or Batshuayi in exchange.
Unlike Barkley or Batshuayi, Rice is likely to become a key player in the Chelsea setup. The 21-year-old is a leader at the back and has all the qualities that the current back-four has been crying out for.
More so, it also gives him the opportunity to link up with best friend Mason Mount as the Blues look to get back to the top.
