Leicester City to be without Caglar Soyuncu for the remainder of the season

Chelsea had their Champions League fate out of their own hands when Sunday began.

Thanks to a meek Leicester and an inspired Bournemouth side, we now retain the advantage over the Foxes in the race for fourth place.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have only themselves to blame as they let a first-half lead slip away. To compound their woes, ace defender Caglar Soyuncu was sent off for kicking Callum Wilson.

Leicester City will be without Caglar Soyuncu for the rest of the seeason

According to Leicester Mercury, he will now miss the next three games, effectively ruling him out for the rest of the season. With them set to face Sheffield United, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, the Foxes now find themselves with their backs to the wall.

However, it is music to our ears as it makes our job that much easier. Them missing out on the Champions League could also make our attempts to lure Ben Chilwell all the easier.

Soyuncu has stepped up to fill the void left behind by Harry Maguire last summer. His miss will be felt by a Leicester side already missing Ricardo Pereira and James Maddison.

The importance of a strong back-four is made clear, especially when the team is struggling for form. We don’t have to look far from our own side who have done enough to fill in a whole episode of a football bloopers show.

Former Chelsea youth star Dominic Solanke put Leicester to the sword

The Foxes are now set to be even more reliant on Jamie Vardy’s goals. The team, however, has lost another core player in Soyuncu, with a punishing set of fixures to come. Nobody at Chelsea will be complaining at this shift in fortunes.

Leicester City were sitting pretty in third place prior to the lockdown. However, they have won just once since the restart and are now on the verge of missing out on the top four altogether.

Football is a funny game, the Foxes are clearly finding that out the hard way.
